STAATSSCHAUSPIEL DRESDEN
After the launch of a new corporate design, my team and I worked on the creation of a website in the new design. The challenge of this project was to meet user needs and embody the new brand, while limited by the client’s budget and requirements.
ANALYSIS
After a Kick-Off in Dresden with the client we learned, that we would be working with the given structure and were not supposed to change much of the content or navigation. I therefore mainly focused on wireframes and improving the usability of current content. It was important to fully understand what content the theatre was showing on their website and what templates or module we would be working with. Therefore we build an information architecture of the current side, analyzed what types of layouts there were, what the traffic data said and how the website was functioning on mobile
CONCEPT
Since we were already working with a new design which was quite extraordinary when it came to typography, we tried to consider such as soon as possible. This way the the wireframes would not only display features, functions and structure, but one could already see if things might not work out of a visual perspective. It was also very important to design modular, so that content could be easily combined, but als to create certain templates with these modules that would work so any amount and kind of content.
DESIGN
The design had to be flexible and modular, so that the client would be independently able to create pages based on the content available. We therefore defined a set of basic modules that could be filled with any content and would work together without a designer having to take a look again.
Since the key screens did not cover all eventualities we considered during design, and the frontend developers we worked with hadn't worked with Sketch, Zeplin or any other software that would have supported a more cooperative approach to the design delivery, we additionally created a document that would cover all this.
Learnings
Given the client’s restrictions, this project taught me how to make the most of a very restricted briefing and budget, and to create a product of which our team nevertheless was proud of. AdditionalIy I learned how to deal with expectations that might not represent the very own, how to translate such, and how to shape a product by excelling in those areas that one can touch.
